Meditation 9:30am

How to use mindfulness to tame emotions.

Emotions can be overwhelming and confusing, and when they persist or stagnate, emotions can drag us down. Usually, we repress or discount them when they’re uncomfortable, or get carried away when they’re exciting. In either case, we get ‘thrown off our horse’ by the emotion’s force. Mindfulness offers a way to work with emotions that is clear-eyed, direct and gentle. It’s an approach similar to horsemanship, where the rider and horse relate properly to each other so that they can go where they need to go. The class continues Founders Hall’s series on how mindfulness meditation can be of practical use in daily life. The class includes guided mindfulness practice, discussions and instruction on how mindfulness clarifies our relation to emotions of all kinds. Class will meet April 5, 12, 19 and May 3 and 10.
