Great American Short Stories

Enthusiastic readers will use the Shared Inquirey method for a text-based discussion of ‘The Best American Short Stories of the Century,’ edited by John Updike. This anthology of fifty-six extraordinary stories includes selections by authors Raymond Carver, John Cheever, Joyce Carol Oates, Flannery O’Connor, Philip Roth, Eudora Welty and others. The class will pick up from where we left off in late Spring with two stories, on pages 539 (Saul Bellow) and 569 (John Updike). The book is available through the registration form for $19. Class will not meet September 25.

If more are interested than can be accommodated in class, Louise will repeat the same stories during the Winter 2025 Semester.
