Experimental Drawing

This course explores the experimental and expressive nature of drawing using various drawing materials. Beyond representation and traditional concerns, students are encouraged to embrace the possibilities of creative and expressive activity. Through particular materials, drawing and thinking processes are formulated. Drawings produced are intimately related to those materials and experimentation, a key to uncovering individual artists’ mark and language. Media to be explored will include, but are not limited to, compressed charcoal, conte crayon, oil pastels, oil sticks, gouache, ink and chalk on varied grounds. It is suggested that students have some prior foundational drawing experience. Materials list: Mixed media paper, bristol board pad, pastel paper, oil sticks, oil pastels, conte crayon rags, jars and portfolio.
