In this course, we will study the many techniques of drawing water and sky in ladscape art as they appear at various times of day, in different weather conditions and seasons. Focusing on the sky, students will learn how to choose optimal colors, textures and effects with which to achieve either subtle or dramatic effects to add mood to the scene, including sunsets, the silvery night sky, luminous clouds, lightning amid a thunderstorm, rainbows, and even the aurora borealis. We will also look at methods of drawing bodies of water, whether it is ocean or lake, river or waterfall – also under different weather conditions and how to draw reflections, ripples and breaking waves. Class participants will be limited to 8.
