Focusing on the distinctive style of the Art Nouveau poster, its flowing design elements and nature-inspired characteristics, we will cover not only the designs of the time, but also contemporary art and media that was inspired by the style, such as Brian Froud’s concept art for the film ‘The Dark Crystal,’ and J.R.R Tolkien’s Elvenlands as they appeard in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ film series.

Students will work toward a final project, which could be a stand-alone work of art worthy of framing, or printed as a greeting card or product label (wine bottle, homemade tomato sauce or jam, etc.), or even a self-referential advertising poster for a garden club plant sale.

A supplies list will be sent to students. Class participants will be limted to 8.
